Business Awards Launch
|
The Commonwealth Bank Greater Port Macquarie Business Awards was launched at Panthers on the 2 June. For the first time we have a naming rights sponsor for the event. We are very pleased to welcome the Commonwealth Bank’s Business Banking Team as partners for the event.
This event is all about celebrating business in the greater Port Macquarie region. So with that in mind Kerry O’Keeffe will again host the event as MC. Many of you will remember how Kerry’s wit and keen observation made for a very enjoyable time.
“It is the premier event of its kind on the calendar. In these times when there is so much gloom about, we are encouraging all businesses to focus on the good things, forget about the bad and have a wonderful night of celebration together” said Hadyn Oriti, executive officer of the Port Macquarie Chamber of Commerce. “Last year the town was buzzing for weeks after the event.”
Categories for business this year include three judged categories, including a new one for business excellence. “In addition to the disability friendly and environmentally sustainable categories, we wanted to add a category that identifies and acknowledges those businesses that are truly excellent in the way they perform” said Hadyn Oriti. Businesses will have the opportunity to nominate themselves for the awards and be tested against the published criteria which considers their overall business execution and skills.
A theme is being developed around koalas for the night. “We are all aware of the importance of koalas in Port Macquarie. They are a strong symbol of fragility and resilience. A bit like business really. So, recognising how important they are to our town, whether as an attraction or simply as a wonderful part of our natural heritage, we would like to highlight them this year and hopefully raise some money for them” said Mr Oriti.
Businesses may be nominated either by themselves or their customers. Nomination forms are in the Port News and on line on the Business Awards website:
www.greaterportmacquariebusinessawards.com.au
Each week for 10 weeks, a business and a member of the nominating public will be drawn to win a “nominee’s profile” in the Port Macquarie News for the nominated business and a lunch for two at Spinnakers Restaurant at Quality Resort Sails for the nominator. Events such as this cannot happen without sponsors and this year we would like to thank our sponsors:

Quarterly Business Lunch
|
The lunch sponsored by Commonwealth Bank and Coastwide Pumping was a great success. 80 people attended to hear Craig James provide some insights into the economy. All reports received following the event were very positive. The success of this event sets the Chamber up well for the next in the series.
The Chamber is committed to maintaining the quality of speakers, though will ensure there is a variety in their areas of specialty. “We are looking to ensure that there is always a strong business message from the speaker” said executive officer Hadyn Oriti.
Any members who may have suggestions for speakers or sponsorship are asked to contact the Chamber.
